Giving yourself permission and allowing yourself to cry, may sound easier than it is. Often when people feel a lot of deep pain they are afraid to cry. If they cry, they may fear that they will never be able to stop. They don't want to feel those painful feelings. It may seem easier to avoid the feelings or to try to numb out. Sometimes we have major judgement about our feelings and fear other's judgement as well. Or maybe we hold onto old messages from childhood about not crying, or messages from our society about who has a right and who doesn't have a right to cry.
These fears can hold us back from taking care of ourselves and allowing ourselves the opportunity and the right to feel all of our feelings. Everyone has the right to cry. Whether we like it or not, we all have inner pain about things that happen through our lives. And we will continue to have a myriad of emotions throughout our lives. Pain is universal. Loss is universal. Crying is completely acceptable and expectable.
When was the last time you allowed your self to let the tears come and let yourself feel whatever feelings are there?
